Celebrate spring with Carpe Musicam!’s ‘Fantasia’

-

Carpe Musicam! Orchestra and Choir are ready to treat audiences in George, Mossel Bay and Sedgefield with their spring concert, Fantasia 2023.

Show times are as follows: Sunday 8 October (15:30) at the Dutch Reformed Church in Sedgefield; Friday 13 October (19:00) at Outeniqua High School in George and Sunday 15 October (15:30) at the Mossel Bay City Hall.

“Almost all the music dates from the late 20th and early 21st centuries, with the exception of Ode to Joy from Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony (with a serious modern twist) and the Classical Music Mash-up that did the rounds on the net a few years ago,” said CM! director Norman Carless.

“This collection of snippets from favourite classics has been sensitively yet robustly orchestrated, and will be performed so that each snippet is given its traditional nuance as far as is possible in the context of the work.

“An interesting newcomer to the orchestral repertoire is Ted Huggens’ Chorale and Rockout. This has been a wind band favourite since the 1970s when it was composed. CM! has re-orchestrated it for full orchestra and wordless chorale.”

The audience can expect some Spanish dancing and pan pipes puffed by Carless in The Lonely Shepherd, as made famous by

James Last and Gheorghe Zamfir. The music of Andrew Lloyd Webber, Vangelis, Bill Conti and Leonard Cohen all feature in this very special programme.

Tickets cost R150 (adults) and R50 (under 18s). Book your tickets online at www. carpemusicam.co.za, buy cash at the door, or send a WhatsApp to Elsabe on 073 857 2952. Refreshments will be on sale at all the concerts, with a few tables for those wishing to bring their own picnic to enjoy it promenade concert style, available on a firstcome-first-served basis at the George and Mossel Bay concerts.
