Elderly Week celebrations engage the community
KNYSNA - The Vermont Old Age Centre celebrated Elderly Week from 26 September to 2 October to honour and uplift the elderly residents. The weeklong celebration was made possible by members of the community who provided the residents with a range of activities and entertainment, ranging from musical performances to recreational games. In addition, the centre received a generous donation of two vital signs monitors from Life Knysna Private Hospital.
Celebrations commenced on Tuesday 26 September with a delightful service centre musical that treated residents to an enchanting performance that brought both joy and nostalgy.
On Wednesday 27 September, the Vermont departmental drama/music performance treated them to dramatic performances and musical renditions.
The learners of Chalkley Talkley Preprimary School delivered a heart-warming musical performance on Thursday 28 September.
The children's infectious energy and enthusiasm brought smiles to the faces of the elderly residents.
On Saturday 30 September, the focus shifted to recreation and fun as game day commenced.
The Vermont residents were encouraged to participate in a variety of recreational activities facilitated by staff and caretakers. Apart from enjoyment, the activities promoted physical exercise, social interaction and a sense of camaraderie.
Sunday 1 October marked the conclusion of Elderly Week celebrations with a special church service, facilitated by Emmanuel Care Ministries led by Pastor William Stander, that provided an opportunity for reflection, gratitude and spiritual connection. It was a meaningful way to end the week of festivities.
Vermont would like to thank Life Knysna Private Hospital, Emmanuel Care Ministries, the Hopefield Church Brigade and the Knysna New Apostolic Church for their contributions to elderly week.
