Royals take Super League crown

- Blake Linder

Two Hornlee teams, FC Royals and Young Brothers, have been promoted to the KLFA Domestic League following a successful 2023 KLFA Super League season. Royals were triumphant in the Super League, winning the title on goal difference alone.

It's been a long season for the teams in the Knysna Local Football Association (KLFA)

Super League, but things finally wrapped up last weekend, a month after the Domestic League finished with FC Rebels (also from Hornlee) emerging victorious. The title race in the Super League has been closely contested all season, going right down to the final day on Sunday 22 October.

FC Royals and Pine Stars B were the two teams vying for Super League glory, heading into the final day level on points. Royals were ahead on goal difference though, meaning that to secure the title, all they had to do was ensure they match or better the results that Pine Stars B achieved. The day started as Royals needed it to, with a 1-0 win over Voota B, but Pine Stars B also secured three points courtesy of a walk-over against CX Strikers who didn't honour the fixture.

Both sides had tough fixtures to wrap up the day, Royals facing fourth-placed Sinako and Pine Stars B taking on Red Eagles B. Both matches ended in draws though, with

Royals and Sinako drawing 2-2 while Pine Stars B and Red Eagles B drew 1-1. This was enough for Royals to secure the title and promotion to the Domestic League. Pine Stars B finished the league in second, but cannot be promoted as their first team is in the Domestic League. This means thirdplaced Young Brothers earns promotion back to the Domestic League after a lengthy stay in the Super League. Courtesy of their draw, Sinako remain in fourth place.
