Growing tourism in Kwano

- Chris van Gass

PLETTENBERG BAY -

When Truet Zakia Sebofi, or Trust as he is know in Kwanokuthula where he is a business owner, received his liquor licence from the Western Cape Liquor Board earlier this month, he could hardly contain his joy.

His establishment has reinforced the township tourism offerings in Plettenberg Bay. It took Trust almost five years to reach his dream. "I cannot say thank you enough to Paul Duverge of the Plettenberg Bay Tourism Board, who helped me with the process," he said.

Now he can continue welcoming tourists from everywhere - and provide them with a legal drink. Tourists from Germany, the Netherlands, UK, and even some African countries, have heaped praise on him for the authentic African braai he offers.

"We go out of our way to give you a true experience of township dining and a memorable outing," says Trust.

Trust sent a letter of thanks to those who supported him and in achieving progress, such as Duverge. "As an entrepreneur you always try and achieve what you can and

scream out loud until you're heard," Trust says. "I attended meetings for network marketing and met Paul Duverge in February. I supplied all my past paperwork to him and his trustworthy team – and now I have my permit for selling alcohol. It’s done and dusted."

He has some advice for "young stars" in the township tourism industry to achieve: "Collaborate with your local tourism team and work with them."

Trust has another string to his bow, though. Not only does he serve meat off the braai (shisa nyama), but he has learnt, through working at other hospitality establishments, to serve great pizzas.
