Low scores define tight Prem weekend

- Blake Linder

REGIONAL - It was a weekend of low scores in SWD Premier League matches all around the region, with only one match seeing scores pass the 100 mark on 18 November. The opposite could be said for the Reserve League 2 matches though, with more high-scoring matches on show last weekend.

In the Premier League, Knysna Cavaliers were looking to bounce back from a loss against Union Stars 2 on 11 November that was tough to swallow, welcoming Mossel Bay to Loerie Park for the Cavaliers' first home match of the Premier League season. Pioneers meanwhile played at home again, and were playing their first match of the season as they welcomed George to New Horizons. Both matches were played on Saturday 18 November.

Cavaliers batted first in Knysna, and a sticky wicket up front made matters tough for the home side. They were bowled out for only 98, setting Mossel Bay a meagre target of 99. Cavaliers remained disciplined with ball in hand though, and the visitors were bowled out for 83 to hand Cavaliers a 15-run triumph.

In Plett the home side bowled first, and George were restricted to 113. Just like Mossel Bay, Pioneers couldn't capitalise on a top bowling performance and were bowled out for 107, meaning George earned a six-run victory. In the Reserve League Division 1 it was a nightmare day on Saturday for the men from Kranshoek Cobras, who travelled to Blanco in George only to be bowled for 21. Blanco chased it down swiftly, winning by 10 wickets.

Moving onto Reserve League Division 2 on Sunday 19 November, Pioneers B and C faced off in New Horizons. Pioneers C batted first and made their way to a respectable total of 173. Pioneers B were cool and calm with the bat though, chasing down the target of 174 to win by eight wickets.

In Kranshoek, Cavaliers C faced Kranshoek Cobras B, and the visitors bowled first. Cobras B were bowled out for only 62, and Cavaliers C chased it down swiftly to earn an eight-wicket-victory.

Over in Knysna it was a battle for top spot in the pool as Pirates United B and Cavaliers B faced off.

The latter batted first and posted a total of 142 before they were bowled out. Pirates B shook off the nerves and managed to secure a six-wicket triumph to move into top spot in the pool.
