Cavaliers ladies and Pirates flying high

REGIONAL - The Knysna Cavaliers ladies and Pirates United B teams are currently soaring above the competitio­n in their respective leagues, both earning wins last weekend. This while Cavaliers B and Plett Pioneers B were also victorious in their matches.

Cavaliers' ladies were in action on Saturday 2 December in their first home game of the season, with Dysselsdor­p making the trip to Knysna. The ladies from Pioneers welcomed Sussex to New Horizons for their first game of the season, and Kranshoek Cobras ladies faced Thembaleth­u at home.

It was a tough start to the weekend for Pioneers, whose ladies were bowled out for only 59 by Sussex. The visitors made light work of the chase, winning by seven wickets. Cobras suffered a similar fate against Thembaleth­u. Also batting first, they were bowled out for 75, with Thembaleth­u chasing down the target to win by six wickets. In the third ladies fixture on Saturday, Knysna Cavaliers batted first, scoring 216-3 in their allotted 30 overs.

They bowled Dysselsdor­p out for a measly 18, winning by 198 runs. Cavaliers' ladies are now top of their log and face Sussex this weekend.

Pirates' first team also took to the field on Saturday, but they travelled to Mossel Bay to face Sussex for some Promotion League action. There they bowled Sussex out for 168, but fell agonisingl­y short of the target in the chase with Sussex winning by only three runs.

The reserve teams all played on Sunday when Cavaliers C travelled to Plett to face Pioneers B, Cavaliers B took on Pioneers C in Knysna, and Pirates B made the trip to Kranshoek to face Cobras B. Pirates B batted first in Kranshoek, scoring a mammoth 334-7 in 40 overs. They in turn bowled Cobras B out for 198 to secure a 136-run win. Pirates B are top of Pool A in Reserve League 2, and take on Cavaliers C this weekend.

In New Horizons, Cavaliers C batted first, scoring a total of 195 before they were bowled out. Pioneers B dutifully chased down the target to win by four wickets. At Loerie Park, Cavaliers B got one back for their colleagues, scoring 203 all-out. They bowled Pioneers C out for 100 for a 103-run win.
