A marathon rise to the top
KNYSNA - At a gala event held at the Protea King George rge Hotel on Friday 1 December, Knysna sna Marathon Club (KMC) received the he prestigious award of "Club of the Year" ear" for 2023 out of a total of 23 clubs ubs registered with Athletics South Western Districts (ASWD).
The criteria to qualify ualify for nominations cover r a wide spectrum that includes udes matters such as the e contribution made e to ASWD by the clubs, bs, social responsibility ty to the community, development of the he sport, quality of events presented, and the number of events presented d per club, to name but a few. "Kudos goes firstly to the committee members mbers who worked tirelessly throughout the year," said KMC chairperson Barry Danvers. Danve "Then there are all those volunteers who gave of their time and a talents to ensure that the races presented by the KMC were of such s a high standard. There are just ju too many names to mention but I would like to just add that the Sedgefield Striders helped enormously enor during the Oyster Oyst Festival with the hosting hosti of the well-known Forest F Run and the Houtkapper Hou Trail T Run, for which KMC was grateful." At the same sam gala event, Lehanie Leh Scholtz of KMC KM received the award a for Administrator Administrat of the Year.

her on this well-deserved achievement that also contributed to the KMC receiving the award that it did," Danvers said. "While the KMC has made enormous strides over the last couple of years, as evidenced by these awards, it accepts that there are a few areas that still require attention. These will be addressed by the KMC committee for 2024."
