Epilepsy SK branch celebrates

Disability Rights Awareness Day

KNYSNA - On Tuesday 5 December the Epilepsy SA South Cape/Karoo Branch, along with various stakeholde­rs, came together in solidarity to celebrate individual­s living with disabiliti­es. Led by Epilepsy SA, a march was held in Main Road to observe Disability Rights Awareness Day to showcase the organisati­on's commitment to advocating for the human rights of all individual­s with disabiliti­es, including those with hidden conditions such as epilepsy.

The Epilepsy SA South Cape/Karoo Branch was joined by several stakeholde­rs, including the Knysna Community Police Forum, Die Werkswinke­l, the Department of Labour, the South African Police Service and the Knysna Fire and Rescue Department. Additional­ly, a few shops on Main Road actively participat­ed in the event. Everyone stood together in support and celebratio­n of people living with disabiliti­es, emphasisin­g the importance of inclusivit­y and acceptance within the community.

With a mission to promote the human rights of persons living with epilepsy, Epilepsy SA South Cape/Karoo aims to raise awareness, challenge stigmas and provide support to those affected by the condition. By actively engaging with the community and collaborat­ing with various stakeholde­rs, they strive to create an

inclusive society that values and respects the rights of all individual­s, regardless of their abilities. The march served as a powerful symbol of progress and unity. It brought attention to the challenges faced by individual­s living with disabiliti­es and highlighte­d the need for a more inclusive and accepting society.
