Cutting down crime
KNYSNA - Community safety was placed in the spotlight on Thursday 7 December as the national Deputy Minister of Police, Cassel Mathale, invited Knysna residents to participate in a community imbizo on crime prevention at the Concordia High School hall.
The event brought together various stakeholders, including the South African Police Service (Saps), Knysna Alcohol and Drug Centre (KADC), the Knysna Community Police Forum and Knysna Municipality. The imbizo provided a platform for community members to address crime-related issues that affect their areas and suggest solutions to combat these challenges. Law enforcement, administrative officials and citizens were encouraged to collaborate and all be active role players in ensuring community safety.
To promote a cooperative approach to crime prevention, the imbizo included a variety of stakeholders and concentrated on visible policing and efficient operational procedures.
The police members at national, provincial and local levels exchanged ideas and sympathetically recognised the particular needs of the community. The Hawks, IEC and the Department of Correctional Services were significant role players who expressed efforts to make the surroundings safe for residents. In keeping with the goals of the community, Knysna Mayor Aubrey Tsengwa requested Mathale to consider opening a satellite police station.
The municipality's support for the event further emphasised the significance of collaboration between administrative officials and the community. All these parties committed to work together to create a safer and more secure environment for all residents.
