Fine finish for Pirates, Cavaliers
KNYSNA - The second teams from Pirates United and Knysna Cavaliers enjoyed a fine finish to 2023, as both sides triumphed over their opposition on Sunday 10 December. Plett Pioneers' third team also emerged with a win on Sunday.
Cavaliers' ladies team was scheduled to take on Sussex on Saturday
9 December, but this match was abandoned without a ball bowled due to the rain in Knysna on Saturday morning.
This means Cavaliers end the year top of the log in the SWD Women's League 2, with three wins to their name. They will face Thembalethu on 14 January in their first match of the new year.
Luckily the weather was all clear by Sunday when the men from Pioneers, Cavaliers, Pirates and Kranshoek Cobras took to the field in the SWD Reserve League 2. Pioneers C and Cobras B locked horns in Kranshoek, with Cobras batting first. They made their way to 172 all-out, setting a daunting target for Pioneers C. The Plett men were up for it though, securing a nail-biting one-wicket victory over their Kranshoek counterparts.
In Knysna, Pioneers B faced Cavaliers B at Loerie Park. The visiting team did well batting first, scoring 170 all-out. Pioneers managed to claim consistent enough wickets to keep things interesting, but Cavaliers managed to secure a four-wicket win. Pirates B and Cavaliers C faced off in Hornlee, and the home side chose to bowl first at the toss. Cavaliers C mustered 134 all-out in their innings, but it would prove to not be enough for a win.
Pirates made light work of the chase, winning by eight wickets.
Pirates B remain top of the log in Pool A, five points clear of Cavaliers B, who are in second place. Pioneers B find themselves third and nine points adrift from Pirates, with Cavaliers C in fourth, Pioneers C fifth and Cobras B sixth.
