Drugs off the streets in Plett

- Yolande Stander

PLETTENBERG BAY - Thanks to cooperation between the Plettenberg Bay community members and local crime fighters, illegal drugs were taken off Bitou’s streets and its peddlers have been arrested.

Last week, Bitou Law Enforcement officers received a tip-off from a community member about someone dealing in tik in Kwanokuthula on the outskirts of Plett.

According to the municipality the officers, along with Kwanokuthula police, followed up the information and found the suspect in possession of the drugs. The suspect was arrested and the drugs were confiscated.

“Every arrest and confiscation of drugs means there are less drugs on our streets. Thank you so much, Bitou Law Enforcement and Kwanokuthula police,” said Lisa Nagel of Plett.Watch, the area's neighbourhood watch network.

She said that these arrests place pressure on those involved in illegal activities and go a long way in the fight to eradicate drugs in Bitou.

A day after the Kwanokuthula bust, local law enforcement officers again received information from the local community about drug dealing taking place, this time in Kranshoek.

Along with Kwanokuthula police, the officers managed to track down the suspect and arrested him. About 148 straws of tik were also confiscated after being discovered in the suspect's home in Kranshoek.

Police are investigating two cases of possession of and dealing in drugs.

"It is the hope that our courts and justice system take these arrests seriously and lock these criminals up for long enough that they realise the error of their ways."
