Tyrin takes top spot
KNYSNA - Budding sailor and jiu-jitsu athlete Tyrin Williams has been in red-hot form lately, most recently winning a gold medal at the South Africa ADCC Cabo Tormentosa Challenge.
The SA ADCC Cabo Tormentosa Challenge was held d in Cape Town on 27 and 28 January, y, with jiu-jitsu athletes from right around the country travelling to the Mother City y to take part. Tyrin, who trains with and nd is a member of the Knysna Titans MMA MA Club, was taking part in his third competition, ompetition, and participated in the e boys 15-17 years, beginner, 55kg category egory and weight class.
He was given a bye in the quarterfinals, before defeating ating his semi-final opponent by submission mission within only a minute. In the final he faced a tougher r opponent, where it t would take him a total of 04:02 to defeat his opponent nt by submission. But, ut, Tyrin ultimately triumphed to emerge with the gold medal, a great at achievement in only his third competition.
Tyrin, who is home-schooled, has been doing jiu-jitsu for three years and has as developed a deep passion for the artform. At only 16 6 years old, over and above his s brilliant jiu-jitsu talents Tyrin rin is a wellestablished sailor, having been sailing for 10 years already.
A member of Knysna Yacht Club, Tyrin has taken part in many competitions and has even done sailing trips from Cape Town to Knysna and vice versa. His most recent sailing competition was the Knysna Yacht Club Inter-club Regatta, where he finished second in the Hobie 14 category.
He now sets his hi sights on Western Cape Hobie championships, both coming up in the next few months. Furthermore, Furthermore Tyrin has a deep passion for fo mechanical work with a love for f classic cars and aeroplane mechanics.
