Kagan: photography meets fine art
Residents and visitors will have a rare opportunity to not only get a glimpse into the fragile lives of African wild dogs, but also the artistic journey of renowned wildlife photographer Jocelin Kagan.
Kagan is currently hosting an exhibition at Le Fournil in Main Street, showing her latest creations – photography meets fine art.
“The vastness of blue sky painted with turbulence or the parched landscape reaching thirstily for falling drops have become my inspiration for integrating photography with ink, 22ct gold and pure silver leaf, fashioning original and unique works of photographic fine art,” Kagan described her latest pieces.
This is Kagan’s second exhibition in Plettenberg Bay following a successful showing last year where she exhibited 14 African wild dog prints, collected over five years in various African countries.
These captured various aspects of these animals’ lives, highlighting pack hierarchy, bonding, training and education of pups, hunting and playfulness.
African wild dogs are the second most endangered predator species in Africa.
“My passion for photographing
African wild dogs has been growing for over 10 years and in that time my appreciation and awe of nature’s dynamic has taken on new dimensions,” Kagan explained.
She said as a female photographer she strived to capture the more intimate and softly endearing looks, movements and joyous behaviours of the wild dogs. “It’s my way of encouraging people to want to know more about these highly endangered, highly intelligent, and highly sophisticated sentient beings.”
The exhibition started on 1 February and will run until 31 March. For more information, contact Janine Kleinschmidt via e-mail lefournil@ mweb.co.za or on 044 533 1390.
