Shaza’s ‘just holding on’

- Blake Linder

KNYSNA - Local singer-songwriter Shaza is taking on the new year with her new single, Just Hold On. The track, which was born from personal experiences and battles that she has overcome, is a powerful reminder of hope and resilience through adversity.

During a challenging period in her life, Shaza found solace and a safe space in her music, using it as a medium to heal and uplift herself. "I was dealing with loss, personal changes, and tragedy," she shares. "I spontaneously started writing this song to motivate and uplift myself, and I hope it does the same for others."

Her intention is clear - provide an instant emotional lift through her music. The song conveys a message of optimism, reminding listeners that bad days will pass and brighter days are ahead. Collaborating with Hit Kitchen Studios, owned by multi-awardwinning artist and producer Daniel Baron, Shaza found the perfect partner to bring her vision to life.

"Daniel is very talented," she says. "He captured the essence of the song brilliantly, creating a contemporary and euphoric sound." Shaza's music is a fusion of energetic electronic, pop, and rock elements, characterised by vibrant beats and pulsating synthesisers.

Her sound, as showcased in Just Hold On, is both powerful and vibrant. For those new to Shaza's work, she has had a lifelong passion for music. Growing up in Johannesburg, she was surrounded by melodies from a young age.

Her parents recognised her talent early on and encouraged her to participate in talent shows, karaoke nights and open mic events. This paved the way for her career as a performing artist. Since she relocated to Knysna she has taken the Garden Route music scene by storm. Shaza is popular with Garden Route restaurants and event organisers, performing regularly, and her new single showcases her talents to the region and to the country at large. She recently appeared on the Kfm Top 40 with Carl Wastie as a musical guest to promote her new track, and continues to grow the footprint of her music.

When asked about her musical inspirations, Shaza cites legendary artists such as Hans Zimmer, Queen, Andrea Bocelli, Jon Bellion and Tash Sultana. She would love to collaborate with the likes of Jon Bellion, Zakes Bantwini, Will Linley, Kygo and Ed Sheeran. As for what's on the horizon, Shaza is already hard at work on several projects, with plans to release an EP in the near future.
