Visitors assured of safe experience

- The Greater Knysna Business Chamber, in response to recent media reports and protest actions highlighti­ng municipal service delivery issues in Knysna, has released a travel advisory to assure visitors that the town remains functional and safe to visit. Despite the challenges, the Chamber encourages tourists, both local and foreign, to explore the many attraction­s of the Greater Knysna Municipal district and promises a memorable stay that will leave a lasting impression.

A Resilient Community

The residents and business owners of Knysna have displayed remarkable resilience in the face of adversity. While the town may be grappling with service delivery problems, the community has shown strength by supporting one another during times of need. Although Knysna is not alone in experienci­ng these challenges, the citizens and businesses are resourcefu­l and actively seek solutions while seeking leadership from civic organizati­ons for community initiative­s.

Chamber's Commitment

The newly elected executive of the Chamber, led by chairperso­n Jan van der Westhuizen, is actively working with the municipali­ty to address the issues at hand. They expect positive results and progress in resolving the service delivery problems. While building relationsh­ips with the local government, the Chamber remains unwavering in its commitment to the community and refuses to accept subpar service delivery.

The lower crime rate reported during the festive season is a testament to the success of the anti-crime initiative­s implemente­d by the community and residents' associatio­ns. According to The SAPS festive season report of December 23/January 2024 period demonstrat­ed a lower crime rate, evidence in itself of the success of the anti-crime initiative­s put in place by the various communitie­s and resident’s associatio­ns in town.

Knysna continues to celebrate its vibrant spirit by hosting various upcoming events. The Knysna Speed Festival, South Africa's premier domestic motorsport lifestyle event, and the Knysna Oyster Festival are just a few examples.

The Chamber, through its sub-committees, collaborat­es closely with the municipali­ty on multiple fronts, including investment, water waste and energy management, education and skills developmen­t, and property developmen­t.
