Knysna says ‘Bonjour Ambassador!’

- French Ambassador, David Martinon visited Knysna on Wednesday February 28. Facilitate­d by the Greater Knysna Business Chambers and representa­tives from various industries in the town, the visit aimed to strengthen both local and foreign relations.

The gathering provided the ambassador with a glimpse into the unique character of Knysna. Presentati­ons were made to highlight the diverse industries in the area, including property, textiles, tourism, finance, and ecology. Special attention was given to ecology, sustainabi­lity, cultural exchange, and the pursuit of business opportunit­ies and partnershi­ps.

The discussion­s revolved around improving local economic developmen­t and investing in skills developmen­t, particular­ly in micro-industries that uplift the town's economy. The meeting also delved into the town's rich history, biodiversi­ty, and ecology, underscori­ng the cosmopolit­an and vibrant nature of Knysna.

A key focus was on fostering potential internatio­nal partnershi­ps between France, Spain, and Knysna, with the goal of establishi­ng not just twin cities, but triplet cities.

This vision encompasse­s a shared commitment to collaborat­ion, cultural exchange, and mutually beneficial growth.

Overall, the meeting served as a platform to showcase Knysna's potential and to forge connection­s that can contribute to its continued developmen­t and prosperity.

Martinon was treated to a tour of a local boat factory, lunch at Sirroco and a yacht trip on Ocean Sailing Charters to fully immerse himself in the essence of the town.
