School’s bands play for Paws

- Yolande Stander PLETTENBERG BAY -

The popular Rondebosch Boys’ High School bands are set to entertain Plett residents and visitors next week and all for a good cause.

Three of the school’s bands will be performing at the Plett Evangelical Fellowship Church off Piesang Valley Road on 17 March to raise funds for the Plettenberg Bay Animal Welfare Society (Paws).

Marsja Hall-Green of Paws said previous concerts by these bands were so popular that tickets were completely sold out. “We at Pawws are excited to host the 30 talented young musicians,” Hall-Green said.

The concert will feature three of the school’s bands. First the concert band – a wind and brass ensemble – will take to the stage with arrangements of classical, popular and light music. The school’s jazz band will also entertain with a selection of jazz classics, as well as contemporary and South African jazz. Finally the school’s gig band – a pop/rock band – will end off the evening with hit songs by Michael Buble,

Billy Joel and Paul Simon.

Hall-Green said the school’s music department has a proud history of producing musicians of a very high standard.

“As part of their music education, the young musicians have many opportunities to perform at community events and on tours. We are privileged to host. This is a perfect event for the whole family, young and old.”

The concert is set to start at 16:00. Tickets are R150 per person and bookings can be made at Barney’s info kiosk at the Market Square Shopping Centre on 044 533 3219 or contacting Hall-Green on 073 645 9476.
