The Living Cornerstone says it was honoured by a visit from the Knysna Mayor's office last week.

On 15 March, Knysna Mayor Aubrey Tsengwa and his team visited the NGO, that is a care facility for people with dementia who need frail care.

Facility manager Marietjie Digue thanked the mayor and his team for making the effort to visit so that Living Cornerstone could introduce the residents and carers and show him the facilities.

Tsengwa congratulated Digue and her team for what they do for the community.

"It is one of those moments that we will treasure in our hearts," said Digue.

She said the recliner chair project, which aimed to provide every resident with a recliner chair, was a great success and had now been fully realised.

"This ensures our residents can sit in comfort while watching TV or getting a feet rub or well-deserved pedicure. This project was well supported by Sedgefield

Lions, Satin and Silk and members of the community."

Living Cornerstone was also able to install an accredited fire alarm system as required by the Department of Social Development. This project was supported by Rotary Knysna, Rotary Anns Knysna and MG Motor Club Knysna.

Next on the list of projects is to get every resident a brand-new hospital bed. "We have given ourselves two years to complete this goal. We reached a 50% completion of the project and we are realistically positive that this project will be finalised by the end of 2024. This project was well supported by St Francis United Church, Sedgefield Lions, Melodrama and the proceeds of our golf day."

Furniture in the house has been upgraded, new bedroom cupboards were installed, and an electricity back-up system in the form of an inverter and solar panels was installed. This project was supported by Manie Heunis Plumbing and Electrical.

The Sedgefield community have also helped with the upgrading of the gardens.

In addition, Living Cornerstone runs ongoing projects such as the feeding scheme.

Digue said their annual golf day was supported by 53 local and national companies, while the annual Women’s Day was supported by 22 local and national companies.

"Thank you to the organisations that gave

us the opportunity to do fundraising at their place of business," Digue said. "Thank you to our dedicated staff for unconditionally going the extra mile. To those individuals who are always prepared to help with their sewing and knitting skills, thank you for caring. Thank you for assisting us to make sure that we can give the best possible care to those vulnerable and frail amongst us."
