Stanley Grootboom’s indigenous language kids book launched
KNYSNA - Stanley Grootboom is keeping Khoi and San pride alive with the launch of his children's book, Tiqua the Great Warrior, that took place on 5 March at the Old Gaol Museum.
The book, written and illustrated by Grootboom himself and published by David Philips Publishing, is significant because it centres around indigenous subject matter. It is written in Afrikaans, English and isiXhosa.
With its multilingual approach and colourful illustrations, Tiqua the Great Warrior celebrates cultural heritage and promotes linguistic diversity among young readers wo are transported to a vibrant world where adventure, bravery, and resilience intertwine.
Tiqua, a wise chief among the indigenous people of the Tsitsikamma, confronts the malevolent Gaunab and sets out to save kidnapped children.
Utilising the healing power of the forest streams, Tiqua endeavours to heal the children and reunite them with their loved ones.
One of the unique aspects of Tiqua the Great Warrior is its multilingual approach, which ensures that children from diverse backgrounds can engage with the story.
