Greater Knysna celebrates Library Week
- Libraries in the greater Knysna are set for days of excitement and engagement during National Library Week. From 18 to 24 March, these libraries are hosting a variety of activities centred around this year's theme, "Libraries Foster Social Cohesion."
Knysna Municipal Manager Ombali Sebola was enthusiastic about the planned events and emphasised the pivotal role libraries play in promoting inclusivity and bringing communities together.
The Town Library will kick off the festivities with a vibrant Library Marketing and Orientation campaign at Memorial Square to promote library services and ignite a love for reading among all residents.
Brackenhill Library will host the "Around the World Reading Adventure" for children aged 12 to 19. This initiative will introduce reading material from diverse cultures, encouraging young minds to expand their horizons.
Khayalethu Library will support lifelong learning and literacy development with the Grade 12 Career Expo Day, offering educational and awareness activities for students.
Rheenendal Library members will visit
Humpty Dumpty Crèche to teach children about self-sustainability through hands-on gardening activities to encourage understanding of the importance of environmental awareness.
Hornlee Library will nurture the artistic talents of community members through creative arts sessions while Masifunde and Rudolf Balie libraries will engage young learners with word search games and celebrate World Poetry Day, making language and literature an enjoyable experience.
Sedgefield, Smutsville, and Karatara
libraries will host computer literacy workshops, empowering residents with essential skills and bridging the digital divide.
Sebola urged all residents to join the celebrations and encourages them to visit the municipality's website for the full programme of events.
He emphasised that libraries are vibrant hubs of learning, culture and community engagement, not just not just repositories of books. National Library Week provides an excellent opportunity to showcase the diverse range of activities and services that libraries offer to all residents.
