Greater Knysna celebrates Library Week

- Libraries in the greater Knysna are set for days of excitement and engagement during National Library Week. From 18 to 24 March, these libraries are hosting a variety of activities centred around this year's theme, "Libraries Foster Social Cohesion."

Knysna Municipal Manager Ombali Sebola was enthusiast­ic about the planned events and emphasised the pivotal role libraries play in promoting inclusivit­y and bringing communitie­s together.

The Town Library will kick off the festivitie­s with a vibrant Library Marketing and Orientatio­n campaign at Memorial Square to promote library services and ignite a love for reading among all residents.

Brackenhil­l Library will host the "Around the World Reading Adventure" for children aged 12 to 19. This initiative will introduce reading material from diverse cultures, encouragin­g young minds to expand their horizons.

Khayalethu Library will support lifelong learning and literacy developmen­t with the Grade 12 Career Expo Day, offering educationa­l and awareness activities for students.

Rheenendal Library members will visit

Humpty Dumpty Crèche to teach children about self-sustainabi­lity through hands-on gardening activities to encourage understand­ing of the importance of environmen­tal awareness.

Hornlee Library will nurture the artistic talents of community members through creative arts sessions while Masifunde and Rudolf Balie libraries will engage young learners with word search games and celebrate World Poetry Day, making language and literature an enjoyable experience.

Sedgefield, Smutsville, and Karatara

libraries will host computer literacy workshops, empowering residents with essential skills and bridging the digital divide.

Sebola urged all residents to join the celebratio­ns and encourages them to visit the municipali­ty's website for the full programme of events.

He emphasised that libraries are vibrant hubs of learning, culture and community engagement, not just not just repositori­es of books. National Library Week provides an excellent opportunit­y to showcase the diverse range of activities and services that libraries offer to all residents.
