Buco Easter Adventure Weekend spiced up
PLETTENBERG BAY - Nothing says Easter has arrived in Plett better than the annual Buco Easter Adventure Weekend, and this year is no different.
Organised by Muddyfoot Adventures, the popular event on the local sports calendar will take place at Cairnbrogie on the outskirts of Plett and Royston Farms in the Crags on 30 and 31 March.
Action will kick off at Cairnbrogie on the Saturday with the event's traditional Easter weekend trail runs and Easter eggs for the youngsters.
There will be three distances to choose from, a 16km, a 12km and a 5km loop. There will also be a "kid's" walk" of 2,5km.
Entry fees vary from R50 to R180, depending on the event.
The action will move to Royston Farms in the Crags the next day with a multi-sport adventure race.
"In an effort to keep all our athletes happy, we are presenting a multi-sport event with a touch of adventure racing to spice things up," organiser James Stewart said.
The event format will include a run, followed by a bike ride and end with another run. Athletes will be able to compete as individuals or as a relay team.
Stewart said the route would be roughly marked and plotted on Google and other maps and checkpoints will be collected. “The navigation will be simple and just spice things up a bit.”
He said the distances of a 5km run, a 20km ride and another 2km run were approximate,
as each athlete will be navigating their own route.
Stewart described the format as an Easter egg hunt with a twist. "Instead of looking for Easter eggs, athletes will run and ride their way to checkpoints along semi-marked routes."
Entries for senior individuals are R300 per person and R200 for juniors under 16. Entries for teams are R300.
Stewart emphasised that all athletes need to wear a helmet and have a cellphone to be able to participate.
