Library Week closes the chapter on a high note
On Friday 22 March, the Khayalethu and Dam se Bos Libraries, together with students from various schools in the community, held a march to commemorate the conclusion of Library Week. The event, known as the Reading Rally Awareness Day, showcased libraries as dynamic centres of literary exchange where a lasting reading culture is fostered. In addition, a Grade 12 career expo was held earlier in the week to assist students in exploring potential career paths.
The Reading Rally Awareness Day emphasised that libraries are not merely repositories of books; they are vibrant hubs of engagement and connection where meaningful relationships can develop. The march symbolised the community's dedication to nurturing a love for literature and knowledge, with a desire to instill a permanent reading culture in the communitiy.
The organisers sought to inspire individuals of all ages to embrace the written word, emphasising that reading is not only a fundamental skill but also a gateway to personal enrichment and empowerment.
Libraries are accessible and inclusive spaces for everybody, spaces where a lifelong love for reading can be fostered. The Reading Rally Awareness Day reminded the community that the journey towards a literate society requires ongoing commitment and collective effort.
The Grade 12 career expo earlier in the week provided students with a valuable opportunity to navigate career possibilities and discover subjects aligned with their passions. Students were informed to enable them to make informed decisions about their future. Libraries provide spaces where the pursuit of knowledge and personal passions can be connected, contributing to the holistic development of individuals.
Library Week highlighted the significance of libraries and illustrated that their needs extend far beyond their physical spaces. They constantly evolve to meet the changing needs of their users, embracing technology and expanding their offerings to include various media formats.
