Plett thanked for a great visit
Lessons in Conservation is a registered non-profit company that strives to serve and educate learners in rural communities in several African countries on the importance of environmental sustainability and ecological conservation. It also seeks to identify and assist individuals in these communities to become more involved in careers in the conservation sector.
Recently, their team from Stellenbosch University embarked on their holiday programme to Plettenberg Bay, where they volunteered at Formosa Primary School during the week and hosted lessons to an eager class of Grade 6 and 7 students. The week was jam-packed with inspiring learning activities and engaging educational presentations, all aimed at raising awareness of local conservation matters and ultimately cultivating a passion for wildlife and the natural environment among the learners.
The team concluded their programme on a Saturday morning by taking their class on an exhilarating boat tour with Ocean Blue Adventures. The learners, many of whom had never before been on a boat, were awestruck as they raced along the coastline towards Robberg Nature Reserve. Despite not seeing any whales during the trip, they were still captivated by the pristine Robberg Nature Reserve, the ocean birds and the boisterous seal colonies along its cliffs.
LIC's Stellenbosch team unanimously agreed that the holiday programme at Formosa Primary School was a tremendous success and the amount of positive feedback they received from the school and children has been overwhelming. They thank Formosa Primary and all its staff, as well as Ocean Blue Adventures, for enabling them to help these learners envision a healthier planet and a better tomorrow.
