Clyde Street staying put

-

Certain Knysna municipal departments are in the process of moving to the Knysna Mall, but the building in Clyde Street will continue to house municipal operations.

The departments that were to move starting

22 April, include the directorate of planning and development (building control, land use management, local economic development and environmental management) as well as infrastructure services (water and sanitation, roads and storm water – and project management).

Traffic, supply chain and finance departments are to move at a later phase.

These departments will be moving from their current premises at Church Street and Main Road.

Municipal Manager Ombali Sebola announced the recent relocation of several key municipal departments to the Knysna Mall on Main Street Knysna.

This transition marks the cessation of municipal department operations at the Old Main Building on Church Street effective

1 May 2024.

Sebola emphasized that this strategic relocation aims to centralise services, enhancing accessibility and convenience for residents. By consolidating these departments at the Knysna Mall, the municipality anticipates streamlined operations and improved service delivery.

Further announcements regarding the relocation of departments such as account payments, rates and services, licencing, and finance departments will be made once relocation dates are finalized.

The relocation process will be completed by 3 May 2024, with the closure of aforementioned departments to the public on Monday and Tuesday, 6 and 7 May 2024.

Full operational readiness for customer service is expected by Wednesday 8 May 2024.

Acknowledging potential temporary service interruptions, Sebola assured residents that staff will work remotely to assist customers, albeit with possible delays. "The municipality recognizes the inconvenience and appreciates residents' understanding and cooperation during this transition period."

Additionally, the public participation unit will relocate to 3 Clyde Street, opposite Ted’s Motor Spares, while human resources, currently located in the Concilium Building, will move to the main municipal building in Clyde Street by the end of May.
