ARMOURED FIGHTING VEHICLE

The Singapore Armed Forces seem to be quite good at building tanks but less so when it comes to naming them.

The epic piece of design you see here is what the next generation of tank looks like. It’s named the Armoured Fighting Vehicle (AFV) which is on the nose if we’re being honest but a bit like Ferrari releasing its latest design and then naming it ‘car’.

The AFV can be operated by a team of three, though its turret can be operated remotely. For added safety, the AFV is a completely closed unit. This makes it much safer for the crew when it’s bombarded by small arms but trickier to see out of.

To overcome this problem, the commander get a 360-degree view that’s completely separated from the turret. The gunner gets his own unique view, along with stabilising technology.

It’s a sprightly thing as well, with a maximum speed of 70km/h and an operating range of 500km.

Will it be built?

The AFV will start its service in 2019.
