Aquila Private Game Reserve & Spa is named after the rare and endangered resident Black Eagle and boasts a breathtaking 10 000-hectare Southern Karoo conservancy. For the first time in 250 years, you can now experience a day or overnight safari under two hours from Cape Town and enjoy a game drive among lions and other members of the majestic Big Five (as well as a variety of safari wildlife), where these magnificent creatures once again roam the Karoo mountains, valleys, rivers and kloofs. The reserve is set in the Cape’s famous malaria-free Fynbos and Succulent Karoo as well as extremely rare renosterveld vegetation that was once the favourite hunting grounds of the ancient Khoisan hunter-gatherers.

Acclaimed for service excellence, renewable energy, social responsibility efforts and conservation programmes, Aquila is more than just an unforgettable wildlife experience: it is an experience in luxurious African hospitality, traditional culinary delights, service excellence and the restoration of pride to the indigenous people and the land.

The winners of this prize will enjoy accommodation in the Family Luxury Cottages, which are semidetached and situated in close proximity to the children’s play area. Units are equipped with tea and coffee making facilities and feature indoor fireplaces for that extra bit of warmth and cosiness in the colder months. They are under thatch and feature exterior stone work using raw materials from the area. Children sleep tucked away under the eaves in a charming loft area overlooking the main bedroom.
