Speaking of Eskom…

-

The good news? The economy is expected to grow post-lockdown. The bad news? Expect more load-shedding. South Africa experienced its worst year of power outages in 2020 with a forecast of five more years of repetitive load shedding. Eskom chief executive Andre de Ruyter announced some grave statistics on Monday, with not much encouragement for the future, except perhaps if more renewable energy options are implemented. But the message is clear. The economy is, fortunately, picking up pace after months of lockdown, and Eskom cannot promise to keep up with increasing power demand. The power utility is currently jumping from stage one to stage two load-shedding at any moment the power capacity is critically low. Load-shedding is inevitable. Fight the looters, or know your shedding schedule and light a candle.
