Farewell, Doctor Sindi

Many South Africans — family, friends, fans and the many beneficiaries of her helping hand — mourn the passing of Doctor Sindi van Zyl after she died of Covid-19 related complications this past weekend. The Mail & Guardian wrote last week that Van Zyl has been battling Covid-19 for more than a month. Supporters were eager to help with medical bills: the #Giftsindilife campaign started during the Easter weekend and donations quickly exceeded R1-million. Yet, a week later, Van Zyl’s life’s journey came to an end. But her legacy will not be forgotten — her work as a doctor and host on Khaya FM reflected her tenderheartedness and zest for life. Van Zyl leaves behind her husband and children — and the many people she has influenced for the better.
