Bafta for ‘My Octopus Teacher’
The South African documentary film My Octopus Teacher, which showcases the underwater treasures of the Atlantic seaboard near Hout Bay in the Western Cape, took the award for best documentary at the 2021 British Academy of Film and Television Arts (Bafta) awards on Sunday. After the wildlife doccie aired on Netflix in 2020, it enjoyed worldwide attention for all the right reasons. My Octopus Teacher not only allows the watcher to learn about underwater kelp forests, but it also portrays the life of an octopus through the lens of his new human acquaintance, Craig Foster. After meeting each other, a unique and beautiful friendship develops between Foster and the octopus. This captivating documentary now awaits the Oscars after being nominated in the documentary feature category.
