It is ironical that it took an invisible malevolent microbe in the blood to teach us the power of breath and the thin line between life and death. hen we stop breathing, we stop - we die. It’s that simple yet many of us take it for granted. Human beings are amazing There is a limitless desire for us to experience life. e have boundless aspirations and an infinite imagination. e dream of soaring through the air, and then manifest aeroplanes and space shuttles into our world. e desire new experiences of connection, and then create global networks of information and devices that fit in our pockets allowing us to instantaneously connect with anyone around the world. Yet we are still limited by our bodies. Our senses have a narrow range, and so we live on the cusp of growth, forever wanting to touch the ends of the universe, yet unable to because of our basic biology. However we strive for greatness in all aspects of our existence, we have forgotten life’s innermost secret. The power of breath.

The secret to consciousness is intimately linked to breath. For without breath, nothing can have life. It is that breath that makes our mind move and facilitates our organs to function. The body breathes even if we are sick, asleep, running or dancing. The air we breathe is a conduit of the life force within us. Its intake affects the body and removes fatigue and stress. The rhythm of inhalation and exhalation draws oxygen and vitality from the air around us into the body and harmonises and rejuvenates our state of being.

THERE IS NO REASON WHY WE SHOULD NOT

INITIATE THE STUDY OF CONSCIOUSNESS EXPERIENTIALLY BY KNOWING AND UNDERSTANDING THE LINK THAT EVOKES THE BREATH

AND THE QUALITY OF OUR LIFE FORCE.

A new born’s intake of its first breath and the gasp of a dying man’s last breath is the very life force that sustains us during our existence on the planet.

The breath we take should be long and deep, slow and even resulting in a lessening of tension. Pay attention and watch your breath. Observe when we get excited, sad or angry, (the breath becomes rapid, heavy, and shallow). However, it is your measured inner breath that carries the balance and vitality of your very Being.

Moment-to-moment concentration on our breath and what compels us to inhale or exhale is an interesting exercise in raising consciousness. hen we exhale all the air in our lungs and don’t inhale again, holding our breath, something forces us to inhale - forces us - until we absolutely must inhale again.

hat is it that forces us to inhale is harder to fathom, than what is not

Certainly it is not the nose as that doesn’t really breathe at all, but is merely an instrument through which we breathe. It is not the lungs either, for we feel they are working instruments that facilitate the breathing process. e then discover that a certain force, located around the area of the heart, causes us to inhale and controls our breathing. hen one concentrates on this area, we can either speed up or slow down our breathing.

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Sadhguru, Mohanji and a host of Eastern and estern teachers advocate the science of breath as unique methodologies to create conscious human beings. Several studies on the science of breathing have elicited a significant response in consciousness and transformation. Dr. Richard Brown, Associate Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the niversity of Columbia, claimed that a breathing technique contributed to a state of alert calmness through its effects on the vagus nerve. This nerve is critical in social bonding, empathy and love. It also impacts perception, observation and decision-making capacity.

There is no reason why we should not initiate the study of consciousness experientially by knowing and understanding the link that evokes the breath and the quality of our life force. It is the very breath that activates the bio electro-magnetic force in our bodies. That is the secret of breath. It is the birthright of every human being and it is accessible to all.
