Sudan, Ethiopia conflict
The Sudanese Armed Forces attacked Ethiopian troops in Barkhat, destroying their settlement, after seven of its soldiers were killed. Fearing a military escalation of violence, the African Union has urged both countries to negotiate their disputes and refrain from further attacks. “The chairperson expresses the conviction that the long-standing brotherly relations between Ethiopia and Sudan, and their enviable status as founding member states of the Organisation for African Unity/african Union, will mutually inspire both parties to immediately end all hostilities in the prevailing interest of regional stability and collective security,” the AU said in a statement.
