Tems a BET award winner

-

Nigerian singer Tems won the Best International Act award at this year’s BET Awards, making her the first Nigerian and African woman to win the award. She also accepted the award for Best Collaboration for the remix of Wizkid’s Essence, which features Justin Bieber. She beat fellow Nigerian Fireboy DML, the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s Fally Ipupa and South Africa’s Major League DJS, as well as artists from Brazil and Europe. “I just want to say that a great thing is happening from Africa right now. The light is on everyone there. This is dedicated to Africa and Nigeria,” she said.

V&A hosts ‘Africa Fashion’

London’s Victoria and Albert Museum will host an exhibition called Africa Fashion from 2 July. The exhibition is part of the museum’s greater effort to carry more works from African designers and those from the African diaspora.

“It was really important and actually vital to have this exhibition right now, because we see it’s the African creatives that are shifting the landscape of global fashion. That’s how important their impact is right now,” said curator Christine Checinska.
