Mi7 reopens revamped Hatcheries Park in Chase Valley

- Jade le Roux

Mi7 has breathed new life into the once rundown and overgrown Hatcheries Park in Chase Valley and officially reopened it for the community’s enjoyment last month.

The beautiful new park has received a massive facelift and upgrade, thanks to Mi7’s generous sponsorship that started in July 2021 after the security company announced its decision to take over the maintenance of the park and restore it to its former glory for the Chase Valley community.

Six months later, the once derelict area that had become a crime hotspot is sparkling with new life. The old, rusty jungle gyms have been upgraded to an impressive play area for kids. Benches have also been erected around the park, making it the perfect family friendly spot.

The project is part of Mi7’s Community Wellness Programme which seeks to provide “safe outdoor spaces for residents to exercise and for children to play”.

“Mi7 National Group is a company entrenched on family and communal values and, therefore, believes strongly in the use of outdoor recreational facilities as a means to solidify familial bonds and instill a sense of community. We have therefore endeavoured to rejuvenate various parks in and around the city, starting with this one, as part of our Community Wellness Programme,” Mi7 National Group Director Colin David explained.

Access to the park will be free of charge and Mi7 is not seeking any remuneration from the public. However, drugs and alcohol will be prohibited and this will be strictly monitored to ensure a safe environment for all.

“This initiative is not ours alone; it is the work of all Mi7 clients without whom we would not have the support to ensure community-based initiatives like these,” Mi7 added.

Following the completion of the Hatcheries Park, Mi7 has turned their attention for their next community-centred project to Raisethorpe CBD where they are embarking on a clean-up operation.

“The area has unfortunately become unkempt, with litter and overgrown grass sprawling the streets. As part of our Community Wellness Programme, Mi7 National Group will be undertaking a major clean-up operation in the Raisethorpe CBD.”

Mi7 is inviting local residents to join them on Saturday, January 22, in their clean-up efforts. If you would like to help restore Raisethorpe to its former glory, join Mi7 at 08:30 am on Chota Motala Road between Naidoo Road and Allandale Drive on Saturday, January 22.
