Friends of Bisley back at it after storm damage

-

Friends of Bisley Nature Reserve’s (FOBNR) restorative efforts were again off to a strong start this year as the group rallied to save one of the bridges in the reserve.

The recent heavy rains and severe storms did not leave Bisley Nature Reserve untouched. During one of the heavy downpours this festive season, the small dam near Glady’s Manzi Road flooded, washing the bridge over the spillway approximately 50 metres downstream, where it got wedged between trees just outside the reserve’s boundary fence.

FOBNR rang in the year with a request for assistance to retrieve the bridge, which saw FOBNR members arriving in numbers and their big 4x4s on January 3 to help retrieve the bridge, which fortunately, was still intact.

Together, the group of about 15 men and women volunteers and six 4x4s, cleared the debris around the bridge, attached the winch and successfully retrieved the bridge and stowed it in a safe place for it to be rebuilt over the dam spillway as soon as possible.

“Thank you to all who participated in this very successful operation at very short notice, in very wet and muddy conditions,” said FOBNR member Alan Bennet.
