“A man’s legacy I believe is summed up in how his life speaks after he has exited the earth.” Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s life will definitely speak on because of the great courage he had to challenge the social ills of our present day.

To me this South African icon was the epitome of a champion of the people. Archbishop Tutu’s amazing application of wisdom during his leadership of the Truth and Reconciliation Commision is what drew me to him.

The application of grace and the ability he had to unearth the truth and in the same stride bring healing to the matter is what made him the great statesman I grew to admire and revere. In a world filled with ever increasing corruption Archbishop Tutu never held back or missed an opportunity to speak out against this atrocity that is ruining our society today.

This great man of God and that is what he was never allowed the leaders of our day to muzzle his voice. He was never afraid to straighten the crooked path taken by his peers of his day.

In 2013, the Desmond Tutu and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation was established. The foundation pursued interfaith relationships which was modeled by the relationship between Archbishop Tutu and the Dalai Lama. Tutu stated he was not “aware that any faith has declared that it is acceptable that human beings should be victims of injustice and oppression.” This is his legacy and my prayer is that his life will continue to speak in the earth for generations to come. South Africa was truly blessed to have had this great icon be a son of this nation.

May he rest in eternal peace whilst his legacy lives on. Viva Archbishop Desmond Tutu Viva.
