PMB’s top achievers awarded
Pietermaritzburg’s top ten learners were congratulated and awarded by Mayor Mzimkhulu Thebolla last Friday.
Mayor Thebolla said that one of the reasons Pietermaritzburg is the City of Choice is that it is an educational center of excellence.
“We have internationally acclaimed universities and highly esteemed private and public schools and other institutions of higher learning. While we appreciate the educational status, we must ensure they are available to the young people of our city. Our country, and city in particular, needs well-educated and welltrained young people to ensure growth and development. It is only through young and educated minds that we can achieve that. I therefore challenge you, the class of 2021, at all levels of education to heed the call and align yourself with the ever growing and progression of our government. Choose what will help our people, choose what will help our city,” said Thebolla.
Maritzburg College dominated the district awards with seven learners coming in the top ten in the district, as well as the school coming first in the district. Other schools in the top ten include Maritzburg Muslim School for Girls in second place, Marion High School, Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School, George Town Secondary, Nazamia Islamic School, Arthur Blaxall School for the Blind and Carter High School.
