This month, the clock will strike gin, with the Pietermaritzburg Gin Festival set to take place at the Liberty Midlands Mall, on Saturday, March 19, in the Edgars car park. Featuring a curated selection of local and international gins, accompanied by live music, including Holly Rey and DJs, and food trucks, Gin O’ Clock will last from 11am – 9pm that day.

Gin lovers can look forward to tasting gins from premium distillers including Black Horse Gin (distillery from Magaliesburg, Gauteng), OriGin (distillery from the Cradle of Humankind), Smith’s Gin (Johannesburg-based distillery), Railroad Brewing Company (Ballito-based distillery), Ambrewlance (Durban-based concept; a VW bus converted into a gin bar), Monks Gin (distillery based in Cape Town), Bootlegger Gin (Johannesburg-based distillery) and Bombay (world-renowned gin brand). Guests will also enjoy a wide range of gin cocktails carefully crafted by the distillers and their teams.

The festival is a collaboration between the mall and the South African Gin Society, which has been promoting and supporting South African gin products since 2016. South African distillers have been producing world-class gin products for many years, with several local gin brands winning awards at international gin competitions.

Tickets are priced at R120, which includes a Gin glass and

Gin & Tonic on arrival, which may be redeemed from any of the gin vendors. Tickets are now available at www.howler.co.za.

“Gin has risen in popularity remarkably over the past few years,” said Desmond Heunis, general manager at Liberty Midlands Mall. “The Pietermaritzburg Gin Festival offers you the chance to taste several fantastic gins in one place, while enjoying a vibrant ambience and a great day out,” he added.
