DA suspends city councillor following misconduct allegations

- Jade le Roux

ADemocratic Alliance (DA) Msunduzi ward councillor has been suspended by the party, pending investigations into serious allegations of misconduct and sexual harassment that were reported to the DA.

DA KZN leader Francois Rodgers announced the suspension on Monday, after the DA received allegations “of a serious nature” involving possible misconduct and sexual impropriety. He confirmed a disciplinary inquiry is currently underway.

“The DA takes these allegations seriously, which is why we have acted to suspend the councillor while we appoint a team to investigate the claims. If the investigation is forthcoming, we will not hesitate to take further action.

“We want to make it clear that the party will not hesitate to take action against anyone found guilty of contravening our values and the Constitution,” Rodgers stressed.

He clarified that while the councillor has been suspended by the DA, the councillor is still employed by the Msunduzi Municipality, and will still have the responsibility to perform councillor roles, during the investigation.

“We will engage with the caucus of Msunduzi at every level of the investigation,” Rodgers said.
