Saps stalwart Oom Piet turns 95

-

Oom Piet Kleu, a former provincial road traffic inspector, celebrated his 95th birthday with former police members at Chistlehurst Academics and Arts School recently.

Oom Piet was born in Kranskop on February 19, 1927. He joined the Provincial Road Traffic Inspectorate in Pietermaritzburg and served the department for 32 years before his retirement.

Retired Saps member Logan Govender said it was wonderful to celebrate Oom Piet’s milestone birthday.

“Members listened attentively to

Oom Piet as he related true stories of the past. On behalf of the retired members, I wish him everything of the best and look forward to celebrating many more future birthdays with him.

The cake for this special occasion was kindly donated by Suresh Harridave. A special hand crafted birthday card designed by Mellany Seevaraj (wife of Daniel Seevaraj) was handed to him. Seevaraj and his dear wife have in the past always provided a cake for Oom Piet’s birthday, however, due to his recent illness, the family were undecided whether he would attend.”

“Thank you, Oom Piet, for taking the time off to spend this milestone birthday with your police family. We are privileged to have Oom Piet, Daniel and Suresh in our midst,” said Govender.
