Bisley residents lend a helping hand
Residents of the Intaba Homeowners Association in Bisley have taken the initiative to spruce up their area.
Stretching from the Intaba Ridge gate along Gladys Manzi Road onto Richmond Road, the homeowners have hired labourers and sponsored the resources to make the area safer for motorists and pedestrians.
Prior to this, vehicles were damaged by the overhanging tree branches and the faded paintwork on road signs, and almost invisible speed humps made driving dangerous.
Avril Turpin, a member of Intaba Ridge Homeowners Association, said that about 70 of the residents banded together and embarked on this project.
“Someone has to step up when social contracts are broken and gaps are created. If we all sit back and do nothing, we will reach a stage of deterioration. Therefore, the homeowners have decided to get involved and do something about the situation,” she said.
Travel along these roads is now safer. The overhanging branches have been cut away and the overgrown grass on the verges has been trimmed. The speed humps and chevron signs have also been given a fresh coat of paint, resulting in clear visibility. Road signs that were unclear have been washed down and made more visible as well.
The initiative of the residents also serves guests visiting the Bisley Nature Reserve, which is situated on Gladys Manzi Road.
