The well-loved J.M Barrie story will come alive on stage next month when the KZN Midlands Youth Ballet in partnership with, and directed by Robin van Wyk, a well-known choreographer of ballets for young dancers, presents its production of Peter Pan and Tinkerbell – the full-length ballet.

64 ballet students from Pietermaritzburg, the Midlands and as far away as Winterton and Greytown are busy rehearsing the ballet, to dance as the supporting cast alongside two professional dancers in the leading roles.

A fairytale that includes sand fairies, dolls and mermaids, lost boys, sea sprites, Red Indians, stars and pirates, creates space for many children’s stage dreams to come true as they participate in the magic. Boys and girls of all ages coached by 18 local ballet teachers make up the cast.

Van Wyk trained in Pietermaritzburg under Brenda Mc Lachlan before enjoying a successful dancing career in NAPAC and PACT, in which he danced many principal roles. He was the artistic

director for Cape Town City Ballet from 2008 to 2020. He presently teaches at LAMTA in Cape Town. It is a wonderful privilege for Pietermaritzburg and the Midlands to have this production staged here.

The ballet is playing for five performances at the Hilton College Theatre on May 12, 13 and 14. Book your tickets through Webtickets, at this link: https:// www.webtickets.co.za/v2/Event. aspx?itemid=1513201657
