Art in the Park 2022 a great success
The 58th Art in the Park ended on a high note on Monday.
The five-day Art exhibition that could not take place in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid-19 lockdown recorded unprecedented numbers of visitors over the long weekend.
The objectives of the event are to give a platform for art sales and to promote social cohesion. “We have made great strides since the 2015 independent survey to improve the racial and age mix of the show and this year, we achieved this at greater levels. While consumers’ disposable income has shrunk, most exhibitors recorded good sales,” said Dumisani Mhlongo, director of Pietermaritzburg Tourism.
One of the exhibitors, Neville Pickford said: “It was a great recovery from the Covid-19 lockdown. A few things can be improved towards 60th celebrations.”
Msunduzi leadership, including the mayor, deputy mayor, the speaker and chief whip, visited the show on the second day and have declared their support for the journey towards the 60th celebrations of the Art in the Park.
According to Kevin Palium, CEO of Creative Arts College, this prestigious event can only get better. “We look forward to the return of all artist to build an even better event towards the 60th Art in the Park.”
