Maritzburg Sun (South Africa)

Don’t miss Music in the Hills tonight

-

The lineup for Music in the Hills (MiTH) tonight, Wednesday, May 4, promises an exciting mix of local talent.

First up, at 7pm, is Ilan Lax with Brian Bedingfield and Roly Struckmeyer. Ilan Lax has graced the Maritzburg and KZN music scene since the 80’s with his soulful and poetic songs that reflect the many facets and interests of his life – love and family, law and nature, and the world in general. Ilan is joined for this set of his original songs and a few favourite covers by Pietermaritzburg legends: multi-instrumentalist Brian Bedingfield on guitar, banjo and mandolin, and Roly Struckmeyer on bass. These guys are having fun working together and will be a pleasure to listen to.

Next, at 8pm Rhiannon Reid will take the stage. Well known to MiTH, from performing with the Reid Family Band, Rhiannon has honed her skills on guitar and vocals over the years. For this event, she will be accompanied by her dad, Vince, who has had an interest in music from a young age and is mainly self-taught. He plays keyboard, guitar, and recently, tin whistle.

At 9pm, Tracing Circles is looking forward to coming back home to the MiTH stage. The local trio has been rocking stages like Post Postino, the Vern, Crusaders and Robson’s, to name a few. They have also played a few festivals like Seeweed, debuted at Splashy Fen, and tore down the Tanglewood Festival. From the back, is the thunderous but laidback drummer, Patrick Austin, who will keep those feet tapping. On bass, is beautiful but deadly Dev Van Rensburg, who will keep the grooves flowing. And on the frontline, we have Skippy Kubheka on guitar and vocals, who will get the people rocking out and off their seats. They are definitely a band worth listening to.

MiTH takes place every second Wednesday at The Knoll Historic Guest Farm, Knoll Drive, Hilton. Doors open at 6pm and the music will kick off at 7pm. Entrance is R50 at the door, payment options are cash or zapper. Bring your own booze. Food and soft drinks are available for sale. All Covid-19 protocols are observed.
