-

The East Coast Radio Royal Rock Concert, featuring Prime Circle, WONDERboom, Cantrel, Fear of Falling and Jacques Moolman will take place on Saturday, May 28, from 2pm in the main arena at the Royal Showgrounds.

Prime Circle is regarded as South African rock royalty. The band has won numerous awards, released six studio albums which have achieved multi-platinum status, several chart-topping singles and delivered a number of sold-out tours.

Ross Learmonth (vocals and guitar), Marco Gomes (bass), Dale Schnettler (drums), Neil Breytenbach (keyboard) and Dirk Bisschoff (guitar) will be performing classic tracks like She Always Gets What She Wants, Consider Me and Out of This Place.

WONDERboom have been rocking SA for 25 years and considered by many to be one of the most legendary rock bands in the country.

Although rock is the fundamental sound of the band, they have delved into different genres, ranging from funk through to punk and even Afro-dance.

WONDERboom have released nine albums, headlined many major South African festivals and have been nominated for five best rock album awards at the South African Music Awards.

Fans can expect to hear hits like Never Ever, Jafta Rebel, On The Radio, Karaoke Bar and Rabbit Hole.

Also on the line-up is Cantrel, featuring the talents of Maritzburg’s own Neil Breytenbach, who is best known for playing keyboards with Prime Circle.

He and his son Jesse have been crafting their side hustle Cantrel, which draws inspiration from bands like Led Zeppelin,

The Beatles, Muse, Rage Against the Machine, Fort Minor, The Beastie Boys & TwentyOne Pilots.

Their current single Without Love is taken from Cantrel’s EP release Chains.

Music fans can also rock out with the rock band, Fear of Falling, which is made up of Lloyd Timke, vocalist Jack Atlantic, bassist Brendon McCaig (You, Me and The Harmony) and drummer Dale Schnettler (Prime Circle).

They released their debut EP, Breaking Point, in May last year and their first album, Turning Point, in December 2021. The band has received critical acclaim for the singles 'Fear of Falling' and 'Won’t

Let Go.

Last, but not least, is Jacques Moolman, who has performed as a singer and rapper in the United Kingdom, before heading back home.

He has since released The Great Valley Redemption, a rock album that traverses multiple genres, from blues and country to heartfelt folk with an Americana edge to it.

The Royal Show takes place at the Royal Showgrounds in Pietermaritzburg from Friday, May 27, to June 5.

Entry is R75 for those 12 years and older, R45 for pensioners and those under 12 and free for under sixes. Organised school groups pay R45 on Wednesday, June 1, and Thursday, June 2, only for all learners in uniform, with one teacher free for every 20 paying learners.
