Brush cutter sponsorship helps keep PMB ‘clean, neat and green’

- Jordan Erradu

The Keep Pietermaritzburg Clean Association (KPCA), in partnership with STIHL South Africa and Tip Top Mowers & Tool Hire recently sponsored a brush cutter to help cut the grass along Townbush Road.

This road has been lovingly and painstakingly maintained by Jan Hankey and ‘Tom’s Team’ for many years and is always in pristine condition.

The sponsorship of the brush cutter is a practical and small ‘award’ for KPCA’s efforts to keep Pietermaritzburg clean, neat and green.

The technology in the brush cutter will allow for a huge cost saving on fuel.

Hayden Hutton, CEO of STIHL SA, whose headquarters are in Pietermaritzburg, said: “The STIHL FS 235 brush cutter supplied to Tom’s Team features a STIHL 2-mix engine which runs on up to 20% less fuel than a standard 2-stroke engine. This

technology alone will save Tom’s Team the retail price of the machine over its lifetime.”

Lara Edmonds, chairperson of KPCA, said it is wonderful to see businesses rising to support active citizens who are making a difference in communities.

“Keeping your neighbourhood clean, neat and green is very important as it has a direct impact on security, property value, the environment, community pride and even hygiene. By ‘Adopting a Spot’ - starting with the one outside our homes/businesses - or sponsoring a team, we can reclaim our once beautiful city, space by space,” said Edmonds.

Hutton congratulated KPCA and Tom’s Team on their initiative.

“We are happy to support Tom’s Team in their endeavours to clean up our city and we encourage other local civic associations to do the same,” Hutton said.
