- Mandisa Mchunu

AHayfields family is desperately appealing for the safe return of their three-year-old daughter's beloved dog, Nunu, who was stolen from their yard last week.

Carike Potgieter said her daughter, Micah, is not eating properly in the absence of Nunu, who was her emotional support through a lengthy period of frequent hospital visits.

Potgieter said they were at home inside their yard when they witnessed someone get out of their car, open their gate, snatch the dog and speed away before they could do anything.

She said her daughter is distraught, as Nunu does everything with Micah.

Her mother said Micah has been in and out of hospital since she was eight months old for seizures which doctors escalated to allergies.

“We were then referred to

St. Augustine’s Hospital where Micah was diagnosed with acute-chronic gastritis (ACG) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)."

Her family decided to get her a puppy to get help her through her sickness.

"Overall, my baby has been hospitalised 83 times and in all those times Nunu has been her

‘go to’ after every hospital stay,” said Potgieter.

She added that her daughter is no longer herself and she talks about her Nunu all the time. She does not eat as she used to, but says she will only be better once her dog returns.

The family is appealing for the person who took her to bring her back, no questions asked. They have issued a reward for anyone who finds Nunu.

So far, however, all the leads they have received have been scams and false information.

“We have not opened a case because we do not want whoever has her to feel scared to give her back. We just want her returned safely. SAPS and MI7 are aware though and MI7 is circulating the news and assisting with our search,” said Potgieter.

Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of Nunu are urged to contact 081 316 3060.
