I’m thinking about getting Botox. What do I need to know? Michael, Joburg

Your bank balance, for starters. Botox injections are expensive and last three to five months, says Dr. Joshua Zeichner, director of cosmetic research at Mount Sinai’s dermatology department. Plenty of guys do it, not just celebs. “I’ve been seeing a lot of guys in finance who are trying to stay competitive with younger men in the workplace,” says Dr. Zeichner. Botox is a neurotoxin that keeps your face muscles from constricting. So don’t go bargain hunting, or you risk droopy eyelids or a “frozen” expression. Find a certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon with experience working on men – otherwise you could end up with an overly arched, feminine brow, which is not what you want.
