Show off your pooch for a good cause

- Cornelle Carstens

Most dog lovers are keen to tell a story about their four-legged best friend with great pride, which is why a dog show naturally makes for a good fundraiser.

This is the logic behind the Stranded Marine Animal Rescue Team's (S.M.A.R.T.) fun dog show to take place on 12 May.

This fundraiser could not be hosted at a more appropriate venue than the Fairview Farm Yard touch farm on the R102 road, close to Monte Christo.

Categories in which to enter with your pooch include: best S.M.A.R.T. support and dog; best trick in under one minute; most appealing eyes; best puppy under nine months; most handsome male; most beautiful female; best cared for / best physical condition; best rescue; best golden oldie (10 years and older); most interesting looking breed; best matching pair; best child handler; and the dog the judge would like to take home.

The top title, champion of champions, is also up for grabs and the winner in each category qualifies automatically.

Entry fee is R20 per category and there are great prizes to win, for both owner and pooch, along with rosettes and certificates. The event, which starts at 11:00 once registration has been done from 10:00, offers fun for the whole family including tractor rides and a jumping castle for children. A variety of stalls are available, including food stalls.

All dogs must be on leashes. For more information, contact Mariska (084 563 7448).
