Linél impresses

-

Last weekend saw athlete Linél Engelbrecht, a Grade 8 learner at Curro Mossel Bay High School, attaining impressive results.

On Saturday, 29 September, participating in the Point Top 10 athletics meeting at Van Riebeeck Stadium, she competed in the 3 000m race.

There was a competitive field of runners and she was able to earn fourth place in a conservative time.

On Sunday she competed in the seeding road cycling race, the Timbercity Cycle Tour in Oudtshoorn.

Donning the colours of the youth Western Cape cycling team for the very first time, she did not disappoint.

Even though her legs were tired from the previous day's athletics, she set a blistering pace in the early stages of the race. She led the 30km race on several occasions with the breakaway bunch, comprising boys and girls, in tow.

A final breakaway in the last kilometre of the race saw her build up a suitable gap between her and her closest rival, Alissa Coetzer from George, to go on and win the race in a convincingly fast time.

Linél now travels to Bekker High School in Magaliesburg where she will be representing Curro Mossel Bay in the Spur Mountain Bike League Final Inter-High School Championships today, Friday 5 October, and the Western Cape in the Inter-Provincial Championships the following day.
