Film, Publication Board seeks public input on Act today
Do you enjoy watching films, playing games and reading interesting publications, but often wonder about their appropriateness?
Now you can play a role in assisting the Film and Publication Board (FPB) in its choice of what the public can see … or not see.
Today, Friday 19 October, from 10:00 to 12:00 the FPB will be holding a session at the D’Almeida community hall in Mossel Bay and you are invited to attend this consultation session on the draft of the classification guidelines.
According to the Film and Publications Act of 1996 as amended, all films, games and certain publications need to be classified by the FPB using the classification guidelines prior to the distribution or exhibition thereof.
Classification guidelines are reviewed every five years. The next review process started in 2017 with the aim to complete it by the end of the 2018/2019 financial year.
The purpose of the public consultation session is to gauge from ordinary South Africans and social partners whether the guidelines continue to be in line with societal values and norms.
“Children build forts to feel protected. We find parental guidance more effective,” says a spokesman for the FPB.
Attendance is free of charge and the FPB would really appreciate your input. For more details contact Takalani Muvhall (071 606 4515 or Takalani.Muvhali@fpb.org.za).
